4-pin (i.Link) FireWire (1394) on laptops
In contrast to desktop computers, most portable PCs (laptops) are equipped with the smaller 4-pin i.Link connector with only four 1394 signal lines. The two power lines have been omitted. This requires using a legacy cable to connect the camera.
You can find the datasheet on this webpage:

We recommend using an external power supply that is connected to the camera via the Hirose adapter.
Depending on your camera model, Allied Vision offers various power adapters for 8-pin and 12-pin Hirose connectors:

Alternatively, a FireWire adapter cable is available to power the device through the FireWire connector, for example:
Adapter 4-Pin 6-Pin + DC power in IEEE 1394a, without power supply; K1200070.
