Alvium SWIR RCG receives Silver Honoree Award and Goldeye XSWIR receives Bronze Honoree Award

Allied Vision, a leading manufacturer of digital machine vision cameras, has been honored by the 2022 Laser Focus World Innovators Awards for two of its new short-wave infrared (SWIR) cameras. An esteemed and experienced panel of judges from the optics and photonics community recognized Allied Vision’s Alvium SWIR RCG (removed cover glass) as a Silver honoree in the Detectors & Imaging category and Goldeye XSWIR (extended SWIR) as a Bronze honoree in the Spectroscopy category. Peter Fretty, Laser Focus World Editor-in-Chief, said, “On behalf of the Laser Focus World Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate Allied Vision Technologies on their Silver and Bronze honoree statuses.” He continued, “This competitive program allows Laser Focus World to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products impacting the photonics community this year.” Jens Hashagen, Business Development Manager at Allied Vision, remarked, “We are delighted two of our innovative SWIR products have been recognized by Laser Focus World Innovators Awards. Alvium SWIR RCG and Goldeye XSWIR are examples of our continued pursuit of developing future oriented products incorporating the latest technologies to support the strongly growing SWIR market in various application fields, like laser beam profiling and spectral imaging.”

Alvium SWIR RCG: Laser Focus World Silver Honoree in Detectors & Imaging Category
Allied Vision’s Alvium SWIR cameras are the smallest uncooled industrial grade, low-power and light weight short-wave infrared (SWIR) core modules on the market ideally suitable to build extremely compact OEM systems used in embedded and machine vision applications. The four new Alvium SWIR models of the 1800-series incorporate Sony new SenSWIR InGaAs sensors which support a wide spectral range from 400 nm to 1700 nm at high quantum efficiency. This allows imaging in the visible and SWIR spectrum with a single camera to lower overall system costs.

With the new removed cover glass (RCG) modular option, Alvium SWIR cameras enable imaging without interference patterns caused by the sensor glass. This is especially beneficial for laser profiling applications.  The RCG option is also available for all other Alvium models using a Sony IMX sensor in any spectral range: ultraviolet, visible, near-infrared, and SWIR.
Alvium SWIR modules are available with USB3 Vision or MIPI CSI-2 interface including GenICam-compliant feature control. With industrial-grade hardware and optimized drivers, they offer a plug-and-play experience when building vision applications beyond the visible spectrum, regardless of whether they are based on a PC or an embedded system. A wide operating temperature range and on-board temperature monitoring secure a reliable operation under diverse conditions.

Goldeye XSWIR: Laser Focus World Bronze Honoree in Spectroscopy Category
Allied Vision's extended SWIR Goldeye cameras are designed to fulfill the highest quality standards. Every component in the camera was carefully selected to provide a robust vision solution. A compact form factor and multiple mounting options let the camera fit easily into compact system designs. In addition, standardized interfaces (GigE Vision including PoE or Camera Link), GenICam compliant feature control, and comprehensive I/O control options simplify the camera’s software integration and its synchronization with other system components.

The new models incorporate latest extended SWIR InGaAs sensors, which can detect wavelengths up to 1.9 µm or 2.2 µm at high quantum efficiencies. The integrated dual-stage sensor cooling (TEC2) and several on-board image correction features are key factors to make specific spectral features visible with outstanding image quality. Each material has a different chemical composition and crystalline structure resulting in a unique spectral response. The further you can see into the infrared, the more unique spectral features can be detected to distinguish different materials.

To capture multiple distinct wavelengths at once, spectrometers are used in push-broom applications to gather the spectral image data cube. The faster the image data cube can be captured for the relevant wavelengths the more processes can be sped up. Therefore, Goldeye XSWIR cameras enable the selection of multiple ROIs, each reflecting a certain wavelength range, to increase the frame rate and to capture only the information required to solve an image processing task.
